I think Lynn and I have just secured a promise for public protection CCTV for Frodsham. I say I think because there are still some opportunities for the promise to be reneged upon - however from what I heard at the council meeting tonight I think we've got it - and for spring 2019.
Lynn and I have been lobbying for public protection CCTV in Frodsham for years. We've put money aside for CCTV out of our members' grant monies and out of Castle Park Trust. I know FTC are also very interested in supporting CCTV for Frodsham - and the Police and Crime Commissioner has also made some commitment to assist in funding. I also have to pay tribute and thank the many people, and especially Charlotte Hale for continuing to press for Frodsham to have public protection CCTV.
The key player in all this is CWaC. If we are to get CCTV - CWaC has to come on board... and over the last 3 years as CCTV systems get cheaper and the quality of HD cameras improved CWaC has dragged its feet. They've had a CCTV feasibility study for Frodsham sitting around for over 2 years and done nothing with it!
Knowing that CCTV is a continuing concern for Frodsham I tabled a very simple question at CWaC's council meeting tonight asking Cllr Shore, the cabinet member with responsibility, to list which communities already had CCTV systems, which communities either had new schemes or extensions to their existing systems being planned, and for those communities when were the schemes to be implemented.
Cllr Shore listed the main communities in the Borough such as Chester, Ellesmere Port, Northwich and Winsford as having CCTV schemes. She then confirmed, what we already knew that CCTV for Frodsham was at the planning stage (but she didn't mention the lengthy delay) - however she then stated that the implementation date for the scheme would be the spring - ie the Spring 2019.
I then asked a supplementary question asking Cllr Shore to confirm that she would take up the part funding for the CCTV scheme available for Frodsham that Lynn and I have put by out of our members' grants and at Castle Park Trust. She confirmed that she would take up those funds.
Whilst there are still opportunities for this to go awry - it looks like we've finally secured the commitment for Frodsham to get public protection CCTV...
Now the challenges are to make sure the promise is kept and the CCTV scheme is sufficiently comprehensive!
